MUSLIMS SWORN INTO OFFICE ON THE QURAN
Keith Ellison made history by becoming the first muslim U.S. Congressman in 2007. Ellison was sworn in with his hand on the quran.
Carolyn Walker-Diallo became the first female muslim Judge in 2015. Walker-Diallo was elected in Brooklyn’s 7th Municipal District. Walker was sworn in with her hand on the quran.
Abdullah Hammoud is a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing District 15. In December of 2016, Hammoud was sworn into office on the quran.
Hammoud is up for reelection.
Ilhan Omar is a Democratic member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 60B. She was first elected in 2016. Omar was the first Somali muslim legislator elected to office in the United States.
Abdikadir “AK” Hassan is the District 3 representative on the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board in Minnesota. Hassan was sworn into office on the quran.
Atif Qarni was appointed secretary of education by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam. Qarni was sworn in on the quran.
