Can tragic incidents where nursing homes fail to administer proper care to patients be litigated as civil rights cases?
About those bar admission standards… Lock icon
The LA Times raises questions about bar admission practices in California by examining the case of employment rights attorney Cortney Shegerian. As a student at Whittier Law School, according to police, Sheregian helped her husband conduct surveillance on a man the husband later kidnapped and castrated.

"Her role in her ex-husband's alleged crimes, described by a Newport Beach police detective in court testimony, has raised questions about the admissions process of the State Bar of California. All applicants for a law license must pass a moral character review," the Times writes.
Attempt to engage in sexual contact with 4-year-old constitutes first-degree sexual contact, Court of Appeals rules  Lock iconAppellant argued that the evidence was insufficient to support his attempted first-degree criminal-sexual-conduct conviction. Appellant asserted that the evidence supported a finding that he attempted to engage in sexual contact with the 4-year-old victim, but not that he attempted to sexually penetrate her. The Court of Appeals held that even if appellant did not attempt to penetrate the victim, his attempt to engage in sexual contact constituted first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Affirmed.
